Wedding photography in Lancashire: Amy and Scott’s wedding at St Mary Magdalene Church, Burnley and Whalley Abbey, Clitheroe
A big congratulations to Amy and Scott who tied the knot on Easter Sunday! Amy got in touch in early 2012 to enquire about wedding photography packages. She just so happened to stumble across my wedding photography Facebook page via a mutual friend. I was extremely excited to be asked to be their photographer – they had planned to have their ceremony at St Mary Magdalene Church, Burnley followed by a fabulous reception at the infamous Whalley Abbey, Clitheroe.
Despite having more than twelve months to go at the time of booking, 31st March 2013 was very soon nearly upon us. Being Easter weekend, we were hoping for a nice day, however the week previously had seen heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures! Fortunately however, by Sunday the snow had melted and it was a pleasant day.
The day started at Amy’s sister’s house in Burnley. Bridal preparations were in full swing when I arrived – lots of lovely ladies being pampered. A striking array of wedding flowers were sitting in the kitchen, courtesy of Paul Lomax Wedding and Event Florist, Chatburn. Amy looked stunning in her dress which was from Amelia’s, Clitheroe and the bridesmaids wore classic midnight blue. It wasn’t long before a beautiful vintage car from Malvern Wedding Cars arrived to transport the girls to the venue in style.
Following a lovely ceremony, the guests showered the newlyweds with confetti and wished them well, and shortly after headed over to Whalley Abbey. Guests were treated to a candy floss and popcorn cart courtesy of the Icicle Tricycle Company which as you can imagine, went down a storm with the kids! The venue was dressed beautifully, there was lots of candlelight to complement the royal blue theme, and a huge garland of fairylights cascaded from the wall behind the top table. The wedding cake by The Little Bird Bakes took pride of place by the window.
Prior to the wedding breakfast, we took advantage of the amazing scenery at the Abbey for photographs, we were spoilt rotten for photo opportunities! Many thanks to the best man and ushers for helping me to get all of the guests outside for a very chilly group photo!
Amy and Scott’s wedding had all the ingredients for a perfect wedding – a very happy couple, lots of lovely family and friends ready to celebrate, a stunning venue, dry weather and a good party afterwards! I really enjoyed being a part of your day… congratulations to you both again and best wishes for a happy future! x
I was very excited to be asked to photograph Emily and Mark’s big day in Blackpool. They were tying the knot at Festival House, Blackpool. I have wanted to photograph a wedding at this venue for a while now, the decor is really modern and fresh with lots of natural daylight flooding in through the window. What’s more, the building has pride of place on the promenade, overlooking the sea and the infamous Blackpool Tower!
The day started with the bridal preparations at Leverdale Hotel, North Shore. Emily, her chief bridesmaid Riquella and two very excited flower girls were being pampered by Emma from Wedding Belles, Lytham. Emily’s hair and makeup looked fabulous. The flower girls were in their element surrounded by sparkly nail polish, glitter spray, pretty dresses and party shoes!
Emily and the bridal party travelled to Festival House in style with a fab stretched limo from Jet Set Limousines. Mark and the boys were waiting patiently at the venue, all looking very dapper in their suits! After a lovely ceremony, thankfully the weather stayed fine enough to take some photographs of family and friends on the balcony of Festival House, then it was straight off to Uncle Tom’s Cabin for the reception. The room had been transformed since my last visit – beautiful table decorations and chair covers and the lovely wedding cake was stood on the stage. After the speeches and food, the bride and groom took to the dancefloor for the first dance, followed by Emily and her father. The dancefloor soon sprung to life, the kids showed the guests how it was done with a very energetic Gangnam Style performance! Actually Emily and Riquella threw in a good few moves too!
This was such a fun wedding to photograph, I really enjoyed being part of Emily and Mark’s big day. A big congratulations to the newlyweds, I wish you and your family all the best for a very happy future together! x
I was delighted when Gemma and her husband-to-be Nick asked me to photograph their wedding. I met with them in 2012 after a mutual friend put us in touch. It just so happened that whilst Gemma and Nick were trying to organise their wedding in Bolton, they were also relocating to the Isle of Man with their children. Wow, this was some supercouple… moving house, changing jobs, moving countries and organising a wedding all within less than 12 months!
The big day soon came round and as luck would have it, the weather in Lancashire the week beforehand was appalling! There were severe weather warnings and the news spoke of people being snowed in. I called Gemma and told her we may need a plan B for the wedding photos! However the joy of the British weather is that it is so unpredictable, Saturday came round and it was sunny. All snow had melted and amazingly, the guests were even able to enjoy drinks outside after the ceremony!
Gemma and the girls got ready at her sister’s home. I arrived to a full house, hair and makeup preparations in full flow and the atmosphere was brimming with excitement! The flower girls looked adorable in their little dresses. Gemma’s dress was from Lacy Days in Ramsbottom – a stunning bridal gown with laced back, thank goodness for a great team of bridesmaids to help her into it!
Gemma arrived at the church with her father in a beautiful vintage car . Nick and the ushers were waiting patiently and looked very smart in their tartan kilts. Following the ceremony, the guests headed to nearby Egerton House Hotel where they enjoyed a very unlikely al fresco drinks reception whilst the sun shone! The main reception was held in the Barn which is a separate area of the hotel, perfect for weddings. Wedding planner Rebecca Karen had done a fabulous job of the room decor and flowers. Stunning centrepieces included vintage vases and teapots which held beautiful blush, champagne and mint toned flower arrangements amongst tealights. Fairlylights surrounded the period fireplace and there was definitely a romantic feel about the room. Gemma and Nick’s wedding cake was made by family friend Tracy Stevens.
Following a fabulous wedding breakfast, Gemma and Nick partied the night away with their family and friends and everyone seemed to be having a ball as I snuck away from the celebrations! All the best to Gemma and Nick for a happy future together and thank you for allowing me to be part of your big day! x
Anne Marie and Pete got married on 16th February 2013 and they could not have picked a better day – what are the chances of a bright sunny day in Manchester in February?! But lo and behold, the skies were blue and the sun shone all day, although admittedly it was a bit chilly! The ceremony was held at St Cuthbert’s Church, Withington where Anne Marie and her father arrived in a fabulous vintage car from Belle Celebrations, Lymm. Anne Marie looked stunning in her wedding dress which was from Berketex Bride. Following the ceremony, we took advantage of the good weather and grabbed some photo opportunities outside the church with family and friends, and of course Anne Marie and Pete enjoying their champers!
The wedding reception was held at the Alma Lodge Hotel, Stockport. Guests enjoyed a celebratory drinks reception in the hotel lobby area which was very cosy with the fires lit. I don’t think I was too popular asking all the guests to venture back outside into the cold for a group photo! The hotel staff and the team from Belle Celebrations had done a great job of decorating the room where the wedding breakfast was held. The royal blue theme was really striking and a stunning wedding cake from the infamous Slattery‘s took pride of place.
Anne Marie and Pete had a fantastic day celebrating with their family and friends and I was delighted to be a part of it. A big congratulations to the lovely couple and all the best for a happy future together!
Wedding Photography in Burnley, Lancashire: Sam and Andrew’s wedding at Lyndhurst House & Towneley Golf Club
When Sam and Andrew decided to tie the knot, they chose to prolong their wedding celebrations, spreading the occasion over two dates! And why not? The big day is usually over so quickly! Sam and Andrew chose to have their ceremony at Lyndhurst House Registry Office, Burnley on January 2nd 2013. They shared the day with close family and friends and after the ceremony, went for a celebratory meal at the Oaks Hotel, Burnley.
On 17th February, Sam and Andrew held a party at Towneley Golf Club, Burnley to celebrate with more family and friends. I met Sam at the house to get some pics of her being pampered. Manchester makeup artist Rachael Bottomley did a fantastic job of Sam’s hair and makeup. Sam’s wedding dress was from Emma Hartley Bridalwear. Despite it being February (and very cold), it was a really bright sunny day so we were able to take advantage of the great outdoors for wedding photos!
Sam, Andrew and the guests had a fantastic couple of days. I really enjoyed being a part of their big days and wish them all the best for a happy future!
When Kim asked me to be a part of their wedding day I was absolutely delighted. Kim and David had decided to have a very intimate wedding with just nine guests. This was going to be such a lovely wedding, just the very closest of family and friends… what wonderful quality time!
Kim and David had chosen the stunning Lakeside Hotel, Newby Bridge in the Lake District for their wedding. Now many hotels and guesthouses in the Lake District boast ‘lakeside’ views or claim ‘lakeside facing’. However the Lakeside Hotel really is what it says… Lake Windermere literally is part of their back garden!
Kim and David must have some luck on their side. I had visited the venue three weeks prior to the wedding and thought to myself ‘wow, what stunning scenery for a wedding’ but of course we are in England, in September… I had to have a plan B just in case it rained (heaven forbid). So I busied myself on that day, running round the hotel finding alternative suitable location for photographs which would still be lovely, but not quite the same as with a lakeside backdrop. Predictably, and much to my disappointment, on Wednesday 12th September, I made my way tentatively up the M6 through the most torrential rain. Visibility was shocking and the journey probably took half an hour more than it should. Miraculously however, as I approached Windermere, the clouds parted and the Lake District was suddenly bathed in glorious sunshine for the afternoon… and it lasted! We were able to take shots of Kim outside in the garden then afterward of all the guests outside and by the lake.
Kim and David’s wedding was a really beautiful intimate occasion. It was a pleasure to be part of their day and I wish them both lots of happiness for the future!
Rebecca was a very organised bride and contacted me back in 2011 to book. I was thrilled to photograph Rebecca and Mark’s wedding – they had chosen the most spectacular venues and of course Liverpool was previously voted the European Capital of Culture in 2008. I love Liverpool city centre, just packed with amazing venues, fabulous architecture and of course lovely friendly people.
Rebecca and Mark got married at a civil ceremony in the registry office which is part of the infamous St George’s Hall. It is a magnificent building which lends itself to spectacular wedding photographs. We took full advantage of its dramatic backdrops and also made the most of the gardens.
The celebrations continued at the Radisson Hotel, Liverpool where the guests were greeted by the sounds of the very talented pianist Adam Dawson. Adam played beautifully on a very glamorous white baby grand piano in the hotel lobby. The Radisson’s lobby area is impressive enough in its own right. Intelligent architectural structure and modern interior design make for breathtaking views, perfect for contemporary wedding photography!
The staff at the Radisson could not have been more helpful and the service was excellent. They were extremely attentive, serving endless canapés and drinks for the guests. The room where the wedding breakfast was held was stylishly decorated with stunning flower arrangements and impressive centrepieces on each table. There was a fabulous cupcake wedding cake as well as a more traditional cake which was beautifully crafted by Rebecca’s talented mum!
Whilst the guests sat down to enjoy the wedding breakfast, the Fun Casino Royale staff were busy outside setting up a mobile casino! Very soon, a full size roulette table complete with glamorous croupier was sitting in the bar area ready for guests to have a casual gamble following dinner! This was such a fantastic idea. So often at weddings there is a gap between the end of the wedding breakfast and the start of the evening reception… the guests go into relaxation mode with a content full tummy and the general energy of the room takes a little lull. The casino was a perfect way to bridge the time and allow guests to have some fun, gradually easing everyone into the evening celebrations. Rebecca and Mark soon headed to the dance floor for the first dance for which they chose a very original song (check out their wedding photography slideshow on YouTube for a listen).
This really was a fantastic wedding to be a part of. Rebecca did an excellent job of planning everything and the couple certainly know how to do things in style! Thank you so much to Rebecca and Mark who were such a lovely couple and also their very hospitable family and friends who made me feel very welcome for the day. It was a pleasure to photograph your wedding, you both look very happy and I wish you all the best for your future together!

My wonderful friend Emily got married in June this year. Emily finally found that the man of her dreams just happened to be her business partner Noel! I have known Emily since we were eight years old when we started school together. I have many very happy memories with her, from playing with our pet rabbits in junior school, to horse riding together in our teens in winter months and getting warm by her parents’ aga, to the day when she hosted my sweet sixteen birthday party – an exciting camping venture with our very best girl friends!
Only the Emily we all know and love could get away with taking advantage of this year’s leap year – she pulled off the true epitome of girl power by asking Noel to marry her back in February! Much to everyone’s delight, a very chuffed Noel agreed to be her husband and so the planning began. Once again, in true Emily style, she amazed us all by organising the most beautiful wedding in just four months! Emily wore a stunning fairytale dress by Suzanne Neville from Dreamcatcher Bridal, Kirkham which was just perfect for her, not to mention the fabulous Christian Louboutin wedding shoes! The wedding took place at Christ Church, Treales, followed by a spectacular marquee reception complete with the London gospel choir Joyful Soundz at Emily’s father’s farm. Thank you ‘Daddy’ for a hosting such a wonderful day! We were treated to sumptuous canapés and a delicious wedding breakfast courtesy of the excellent Paul Rowley and his team.
I was officially off duty for the day as wedding photographer – it was lovely to be a guest and take in the events of day through my own eyes rather than behind a lens. However, I couldn’t resist taking some photos of Emily and the girls getting ready for the big day and I am so glad I did… she really is the most stunning bride, Noel is a very lucky man! I also managed to sneak a few snaps of the cake cutting and dancing!
I am so happy for you both, Emily it’s fantastic that you have met such a perfect match and I wish you both lots of love and happiness for the future! x x x
My dear friend Becky tied the knot with Matt in May this year at a beautiful wedding down in the big smoke! I have known Becky since we were about twelve years old. She has been a wonderful friend over the years so you can imagine how thrilled I was to be asked to capture her big day for her! When Becky met Matt she soon realised she had found her soul mate. It quickly became apparent that these two would spend the rest of their lives together.
Becky and Matt got married at All Saints Church, Fulham. Its tall ceilings and grand stain glass windows are just beautiful and made a dramatic backdrop for wedding photos. Becky looked stunning in a classic Lusan Mandongus vintage dress from Teokath, Wimbledon. The fun really began afterwards when we all headed to nearby Winchester House, Putney on the river. It made for a very interesting five minute walk in three and a half inch heels with a very heavy camera bag and tripod!
Winchester House sits in an enviable position on the riverside. It is a quintessentially old English building boasting a beautiful garden, just perfect for an intimate wedding reception. The unpredictable British summer weather behaved itself for once and although a little grey, the rain held off. The guests were able to enjoy mouth watering canapés and champagne in the garden overlooking the river Thames (catering by AM & PM Catering). Becky and the bridesmaids looked fabulous and we had a lot of fun taking the photos. I managed to steal a very special ten minutes with the bride and groom down by the riverside to capture some romantic moments for the wedding album… they look very happy!
The evening reception moved inside where we gathered in a beautiful room upstairs. Romantic low lighting and tasteful decor created perfect ambience for some very heartfelt and emotional speeches (yes I did have a few tears in my eyes behind the lens!). Becky and Matt then cut the cake and soon got to work partying on the dance floor! The celebrations continued until the early hours and everyone had a fantastic time.
Becky and Matt, thank you so much for letting me be part of your big day, it was a real honour. I am sure you will have a very happy future together, lots of love x x x
Lisa and Darren’s wedding was certainly a day to remember… the couple tied the knot at Dukinfield Town Hall in May 2012. Lisa contacted me via a mutual friend a few weeks before the wedding and explained that they had originally planned to have their wedding abroad but due to unforeseen circumstances, they were no longer able to go. What a shame! Regardless, Lisa and Darren rose to the challenge of organising their new wedding in very little time and I was delighted to be asked to be their photographer for the day.
When I woke up on the Saturday morning, I was pleasantly surprised to see that for one of the very few occasions this summer, the sun was shining and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. I don’t think any of us anticipated how hot the day would be. When I arrived at Lisa’s parents’ house at midday, the dashboard read 31°! Lisa looked lovely and we had the chance to take a few photos outside in the garden before shooting off in a limo with her five bridesmaids.
Dukinfield Town Hall is a fantastic venue for a wedding. The building’s classic Victorian red brick architecture makes for great photograph opportunities. Inside, the grand entrance hall with stunning oak staircase leads to the George Hatton suite where the ceremony was held. Lisa looked stunning as she entered the room with her father and Darren seemed to be very pleased with himself as she walked down the aisle! The heat was relentless but fortunately the staff had provided huge fans to keep the guests cool.
After the ceremony, the guests enjoyed a champagne or two then we headed to Dukinfield park to take advantage of the sun for the wedding photos. The park boasts a beautiful stone staircase which was perfect for group shots of the wedding guests. I also got the chance to steal the bride and groom away for ten minutes to capture a few shots of the newlyweds!
The wedding breakfast was held in the Lesser Hall. This was a good chance for Lisa and Darren to relax and cool down! Not for long though, the evening party soon swung into action a couple of hours later and the grand Jubilee Hall was filled with guests. The DJ started his set and shortly after, Darren led Lisa to the dancefloor for the first dance. Before long, the dancefoor was full and the partying carried on until late!
Thank you to Lisa and Darren for looking after me and also to the very helpful staff at Dukinfield Town Hall. What a fabulous day. Who says you have to go abroad to guarantee scorching sunshine?
